Pain and Sorrow gives an insight to a depressed and also hateful soul who doesn’t believe in the good of people and must endure a lot of psychological pain. The protagonist tries to seek help and share his pain, but it is already too late and it seems that no one can relate to his pain. He decides that it’s better when other people hate him, as he is unable to give something back to others but it is also a implication to a possible act of suicide and farewell.

Toward the end of the story, Nathanel is enchanted by Olimpia and is desperate and driven by longing.
